New Jersey Ignition Interlock Device
If you have been convicted of Driving While Under the Influence (DUI/DWI), you may be required to have an ignition interlock device installed on your vehicle. This is a device which requires you to provide a breath sample to start the vehicle, and at regular intervals to keep the vehicle operational.
If the device is required, you will need proof of installation in order to have your driver's license restored. Additionally if you fail to have the device installed, and drive anyway, you could have your license suspended for an additional period of time, and can face a criminal charge.
There are a number of companies which are allowed to install the devices throughout the State of New Jersey. It is likely that you will receive documentation and/or advertisements from some of these companies which your court case is pending, or after its conclusion. However, you can also find information about those companies which perform this installation on the State's website HERE.(Scroll down.)
The New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission also devised a list of frequently asked questions which you can review. Of course, if you have any questions on this topic you can always contact our office and we will be happy to provide you with additional information.
